Encourage multiple solutions and perspectives by engaging students in a Which One Doesn’t Belong? (WODB) activity.
In this activity, present students with a set of four objects (e.g., numbers, shapes, pictures, graphs, expressions, patterns, representations — find examples here) and ask students to decide which one doesn’t belong and why.
The beauty of this activity is that there is no single correct answer. Rather, students must justify their reasoning, which can vary based on what features they notice.
