Math Bingo

Bingo is a classic game of chance that students of all ages enjoy. With a few tweaks, you can transform the original bingo game into one that has a mathematical twist.

Math Bingo uses the following adapted rules:

  • Instead of finding numbers in a row or column, players will get “bingo” when they can make an equation with five numbers on their board.
  • Equations can use any math operation, but must have only one equal sign.
  • In this version, the five numbers used in the equation must come from one column each (though they don’t need to be in a row).
  • The free space can be any number in the usual “N” column range (31-45).

MATHCOUNTS offers a version of Math Bingo where, instead of calling out numbers, the caller presents a math problem. Each solution is an integer between 1 and 60. If a student has that integer on their bingo card, they can mark it off. Just like the original bingo game, the goal is to mark five numbers in a row to win. You can find their instructions, bingo card templates, and sets of math questions to use in your setting here

For even more extensions of Bingo, check out how you can combine culture and mathematics in Cultural Connections Math Bingo and add a personalized touch to the game.
