    Chawne Kimber: Mathematician/Quilter/Activist/Leader

Chawne Kimber is a mathematician, a leader, and a quilter with a passion for creating inclusive communities and promoting anti-racist practices. She currently serves as Dean of the College at Washington and Lee University. Previously, Kimber was a professor at Lafayette College where she was department chair while directing the Summer Program to Advance Leadership in STEM that she co-founded to support high-achieving female, underrepresented, first-generation, low-income, and geographically diverse students. While teaching and making a positive change at Lafayette through her leadership roles, Kimber discovered quilting as a creative outlet and a practice to support her wellbeing. Since then, she has created quilts that have been acquired by the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the International Quilt Museum at University of Nebraska, and the Petrucci Family Foundation. Her quilts are currently on exhibit at the Sigal Museum of Art (Easton, PA, until April 2023) and the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum (May 2022–April 2023).
